Goodbye Earl!!

Hey friends... we;re back!!!!!
Mom got home Wednesday, then worked Thursday & Friday.
Then Saturday, we had a BIG storm!!!
Hurricane Earl stopped by for a visit.
He was a strong Tropical Storm by the time he
got to our place, but he still made a mess.
I don't think Mom will invite him back.
He was not a nice guest!! He knocked our power our
for 27 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At night is was super dark !

Mom saw this branch out of a window.
You can see that the wind was still blowing, because of the blurry leaves.

Then, this tree blew over!!!!!!

You can see the roots!
Because there is a lot of bedrock, the roots grow very
close to the surface of the ground.
That makes them good targets for hurricanes and big windy storms.

The next day, Mom's sister and her husband came over to help clean up.
They have a chainsaw, and it got lots of work, heehee

That was a BIG beech tree!!!!!!!!!

Mom's sister moving some branches to the other side of the deck.
There is still lots to clean up, and it will take some time.
We are lucky no real damage was done.

  7. Glad you're all safe and that the storm wasn't too bad. Though that does look like a bit of a mess on your deck.

(In NY we used to get trees blown over in big storms, too.)

  8. We're glad you're all safe! I called Mom in Halifax mid-Saturday and everyone around her area had lost power, but they never did. They didn't lose any of their old trees, either, just some small branches, so they were very, very lucky.

Nope, Earl wasn't a nice guest!

  10. Oh my beloved husband Moonshine! How scairty it must have been for all of you during this storm. I know you took good care of the girls...
It could have been so much worse....it doesn't look like the broken tree did any major damage. it could have crashed the whole deck and maybe even your enclose porch...that would have been a real disaster. it is good to see the sun out and that you have help with the clean up.
I have been so worried about you but have been spending all of my time in bed all covered up...we have the sads here at the cozy cottage. Sleeping and dreaming are good things to help make the sads go away...and waiting for Cole to come for a visit.
Please take good care of yourself and your family...remember I love you and soon we will be celebrating our first wedding anniversay!
    Your devoted sunshine wifeXOXOXOX

  11. We're sorry Earl knocked down your tree. And what a drag to be without power for 27 hours! There goes all the food in the fridge. We hope your Mom was able to get some ice and save some of your food. Glad you guys are all okay!

  12. Oh goodness, that's a big tree! I'm glad everyone is safe now. We live in south Florida and we always, always worry about hurricanes. We have big, metal hurricane shutters and it takes about 4-5 hours to put them all up, so our mom and dad wait and wait until they know the hurricane is coming our way. And then, the house is pitch dark inside!

  16. Wow! I bet you were all really happy to see the backside of Earl! We never had a hurricane here and we're glad about that! We do have the occasional earthquake here in SF but not every darn year like the hurricanes!
