Today is the 10th anniversary of a very sad event.
Today we remember the terrorist attacks that
took place in the United States and the many
people who lost their lives, including some
26 Canadians.
When the US closed their air space,
many planes were diverted to Canadian airports.
Some 42 planes came to Halifax until it
was OK for them to travel to the US,
or back to their home countries.
We purr that events like this do
not happen again.

Wow, great shot of the airport and all the planes. I know they were having a big memorial in Gander, but to be honest, I had forgotten that so many planes were diverted to Halifax, too--but of course they would have been.
We're all offering up prayers of peace and today, because hatred only begets more hatred, violence and death.
Blessings and Light to All Beings.
Wow! That is so amazing. Peace to you all-
That is an amazing photo.
Purrs as we remember.
Although I was not around yet, my Dad and Mom were, and they told us about it. We shall always remember.
Wow. That is quite a photo! I'm glad you posted it.
We are remembering and honoring all the innocent people who lost their lives that fateful day.
We remember and purray fur peace.
I was in Toronto at the time, but my memories of the events that followed are quite fuzzy. All I remember is that my visiting cousin should have flown home to the UK on that day, and her flight was delayed two weeks. I suppose quite a few planes were redirected to Pearson Int. as well!
That is quite a striking photo. Our mum was living in Singapore at the time. In late September she took her sister to the airport to fly to Spain, and the airport that used to have very little visible security now had armed soldiers and sniffer dogs everywhere.
Our mom remembers all the peoples that got diverted to Halifax and had to stay until they got clearance to leave. Some of them said they had no idea where they were, but lots of nice people opened their homes and took them places and all these efforts were much appreciated. Some of the stranded peoples have even come back here for a visit!!
It is a sad remembrance, and we hope that nothing like it happens again. It affected people around the world in so many different ways. It's nice to see how the role Halifax played in aftermath and how it brought out the best in people.
Thanks for visiting us yesterday for our remembrance, too.
Wow we did not remember this clearly, but now that you mention it it makes so much sense. WE do remember how they made ALL the aircraft land and how for a bit did not allow any aircraft beside military to be in the air, it was really strange. This event changed so much, those people who were not born before 2001 will never know how different the world was before because they will never get to experience that innocence we had.
purrs

That photo is amazing. We will always remember.
Thank you for the reminder. We had forgotten about those who were stranded in Canada and other countries. It must have been frightening for Americans outside the US borders at the time of the attack and unable to get home. But they were comforted and made welcome by strangers.
