I was glad I got to stay home and enjoy this sunshine.

of the Big Lift.
The Angus L MacDonald Bridge is getting old
and is need of major repairs so that it will be standing
for another 70 or so years.
This massive project involves replacing the deck of the bridge.
This will be done a section at a time. There will be 46 sections.
This past weekend was the first section.
The deck replacement will occur on weekends and where
applicable, the work will be done over night between
7:30 PM and 5:30 AM

Saturday night, work continued on the bridge.
Old re-bar needed to be removed to fit in the new section.
You can see orange areas where the grinding was going on.
It produced lots of smoke that created an ethereal scene.

This weekend,the replacement took a long time to get the new
section in place. They took time to ensure all was secure.
The bridge opened to traffic Monday morning, a few hours late.
Needless to say, the morning commute for some was long,
as there was only one bridge open.
Fortunately, there is a ferry service, so I was not affected
by the delayed opening this Monday morning.
While at the bridge, there was a lovely crescent moon :)

And Mom, those are really cool pics of the bridge being repaired. What an amazing feat of engineering.
Wow, that is one HUGE endeavor!
No wonder they were working hard all weekend repairing the bridge - it's a very long one.

That is a big lift! But I'm with you--I'd rather be home in the sunshine...now where is it? It was all foggy this morning.

That is some impressive Bridge Club!
They replaced an antique, rammed earth (that's how it's written up!) bridge in our town, that spans the Clinton River. We stood and watched as they tore that thing apart, but it was built like a brick s**t house, which is why it had lasted so long! They had to pour new footings into the bed of the river, and I took photos. Guess we aren't the only ones who like to monitor progress!
Wow, great pictures! I've never seen such work before. Very impressive! I agree, those workers have nerves of steel...I would be very much scared. How nice you got ferry service so you could avoid a heavy traffic :-)

That is impressive. Construction techniques can be quite amazing. I agree with you that it wouldn't matter to me if I was tied off in a harness, that's too danged high.
Wow, that is quite the undertaking! It's nice that it's being worked on during off hours. Here we just like to ball things up as much as possible. :-)

Those are amazing pictures! I work for a construction news report so I find things like that very fascinating.
Good thing no kitties came to see that, too noisy we think!
pawsome pictures, we are going to show this post and info to our pawppy and unfurbro-the-younger, they are civil engineers, one in traffic, and the other is doing his master's in structural engineering...think bridges, MOL!!
