Fridgid Weekend!

Julie: We had a wild weekend!
We had some snow on the ground.
A cold weather system moved through and boy
did it get cold on Saturday!!!!!!

It was so cold the water froze in the
pipes! Mum even had the water  running a bit too!
Apparently not enough or else it did not matter.
As the cottage is old, there are lots of places for cold to get in
especially the basement which is not a full basement.
The overnight temperatures got down to -16C(3.2F)
with gusts up to 47 KPH(29mph)
We were cozy under the covers with the furnace going.

In the morning as the temps slowly rose, the water started
running again. Probably because the wind died down too.
We were lucky we had water back
before lunch. Smart mum had water in the kettle
for morning coffee! People in the city(we
are just outside the city) had lots of frozen and
burst pipes. It made a lot of mess in high rise buildings.
The water people and fire department were very busy.
I was glad the the furnace kept us cozy and warm.
Snuggling with mum helped too.
We enjoyed a cozy night.
Sunday was pretty nice too.

Today is  better. We might get some rain showers.
The daytime temps will be above freezing
during the day and we may even get some rain
later in the week. Sun too.
Have I ever mentioned that I am glad to be an
indoor cat?!

Definitely sounds like a good time to be an inside cat!

I am glad you both kept nice and warm. It is important to have water for morning coffee! I always put water in the kettle at night for my morning coffee "just in case".

Julie, frozen pipes are something that worries mom eery winter. So far, she and I haven't had one.

Dodged a frozen-pipe bullet there, Julie.
The Hubby got up a few times every night, to make sure water still came out of the faucets, as Eastside Cats's insulation is not enough to notice, also being an old building.

It was crazy cold here too on Friday and Saturday, but I didn't hear of any burst pipes, etc. I'm glad that didn't happen at your home, Julie, bad enough that your pipes froze!

How many days until Spring??? 😁

So glad you came through that with no burst pipes and no power outages! Yes, indoor kitty life is the way to go!

PS: I still can't get your posts in email, and many others' posts, so I gave up trying to figure it out and I'll just stop by now and then!

I hate it when the pipes freeze. Not having a busted pipe or pipes is a very good thing. It's been cold here at night, but the early afternoons has been in the low 60s that last few days.

Have a purrfect day and week, Miss Julie. My best to your mom. ♥

I am sorry your pipes froze. We were lucky and didn't have it happen to us even when our lights went out for a couple of hours.

It is impawtant to have water. We dont drink much, but we DO want it after our single kibble snack each evening. Having the water frozen is not a happy thing.

It got down to 15F here. but that is sure better than 3.2!

Brrr, that sure is cold, but at least you didn't have water in wrong places from burst pipes. We have issues with bad insulation where I work, and the pipes will freeze there when we get below about 15F...so we have to flush all the toilets every hour and run the water in all the pipes when rounds are made. Here in our house from 1907, we also have some pipes near the outside wall, and badly insulated as well...so we keep the cabinets open in our kitchen...if the sun comes out the frozen pipes thaw out because the wall is on the south side.

Stay cozy!!
